The
Australian plug/power outlet system is described in the SAA document AS
3112-2000 and is also used in New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
The Australian plugs have three flat pins arranged offset and are polarized. The connecting lead has to comply with the special SAA regulations and has to be marked with the approval number N/... (e.g. H05VV-F-3G1 N/...). For special mechanical stress, a „Heavy Duty“ lead with a reinforced jacket is used.
There are three plug systems, which differentiate from each other as follows:
7.5 A (up to 0.75 mm²) or 10 A / 250 V
(1.0 mm²)
All three contact pins have the same dimensions.
15 A / 250 V (1.5 mm²)
The earthing pin is wider and longer.
20 A / 250 V (more than 1.5 mm²)
All three pins are larger.
Pins with insulated part.
